Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its result. Morgan County Criminal History does not keep or log those search terms on its own system.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When you email us, the message and return address may be retained so a response can be prepared. That correspondence remains within the operating team unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Routine server and analytics records can capture technical facts when a page loads:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring website, when supplied
- Visited pages and approximate time spent on them
- Device category and operating system
- Browser name and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved by a browser. They and analytics services help measure traffic patterns, such as which Morgan County resources are visited most and where sessions end. Browser controls can block or remove cookies, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing an entered query to the selected search provider
- Finding and correcting performance or technical faults
- Measuring which resources are useful and which need revision
- Operating the website and keeping pages responsive
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Morgan County Criminal History does not host, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Its content identifies official routes to the Morgan County clerks, Sheriff's Law Office, West Virginia State Police Criminal Identification Bureau, West Virginia Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation, and West Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not compiled into a record about another person or a consumer report. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. A query submitted there is governed by that provider's privacy terms, retention practices, and sharing rules, rather than this policy. Review the provider's notice before entering information because we do not control its handling of a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Morgan County offices, West Virginia agencies, court systems, legal resources, or private tools. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's own privacy terms apply. Check those terms before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their systems to measure activity across websites and choose relevant ads. Their collection does not occur in a Morgan County government record system.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:
- Advertising networks that place or measure ads
- Analytics providers that measure site use and performance
- Search providers that receive a query a visitor chooses to submit
- A government or law-enforcement body when a valid legal demand compels disclosure
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable technical and administrative measures are used to protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If such information is identified, a request may be made for its deletion.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide rights concerning personal data. The West Virginia Freedom of Information Act, W.Va. Code Chapter 29B, governs access to qualifying government records, not private website files. W.Va. Code §15-2-24(d) separately limits private access to State Police criminal-record information by requiring the subject's written, acknowledged authorization and superintendent approval. For information held by this website, you may:
- Request access to personal information we retain about you
- Ask that inaccurate retained information be corrected
- Seek deletion where applicable law allows it
- Exercise an available choice concerning certain processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as site practices or legal requirements change. A revised version will appear here with its new effective date, and continued use will be governed by the posted policy.
